Meet local author James Levine discussing "The Blue Notebook"

Jame Levine, local author and Mayo Clinic physician, will discuss his book, The Blue Notebook, on Wednesday, July 21 at noon at the University of Minnesota Bookstore in Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E. Minneapolis.

The book is based on his experience in Mumbai, India where he visited the infamous Mumbai “Street of Cages” where the child prostitutes are kept caged. Levine interviewed their keepers as well as several of the young girls and boys—including one young girl he noticed writing in a notebook. The Blue Notebook is the unforgettable story as imagined by Levine about a precocious teen, who despite literacy and education, is sold into sexual slavery by her father. The Blue Notebook is powerfully told in her voice through the words in her journal where she finds hope, beauty, and humor in the bleakest circumstances.

Levine will sign copies of his book following the discussion. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, or to order a signed copy visit www.bookstore.umn.edu/genref/authors.html.

Looking Forward to Fall?

Fall Author Tours
It's always a bit exciting when the grids arrive from the publishers with their fall author tour information. We're always a bit excited and a bit apprehensive to see how many authors they are (or are not) sending to the Twin Cities. This season it looks like the metropolitan area fared pretty well--thank in big part to the many book lovers in the metro area. If you'd like more information on our upcoming author events we invite you to subscribe to our author e-news at www.bookstore.umn.edu and enter your e-mail address and select "author news." We'll send you advance information on the authors we are hosting—and your e-mail address is safe with us.
